The Honorable Emilio Garza: “The Vocation of the Judge”

Judge Emilio Garza, U.S. Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals (ret.), will speak on “The Vocation of the Judge” at the Belo Mansion in Dallas on April 6th from 12:00-1:15. Originally from San Antonio, Texas, Judge Garza graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1969. One year later, he earned an MA from his alma mater before joining the Marine Corps, and served as a Marine officer from 1970 to 1973. After earning a JD from the University of Texas School of Law in 1976, Garza worked in private practice until 1987. That year, Garza became a judge on the Bexar County (Texas) Two Hundred and Twenty-Fifth District Court. Judge Garza was appointed by President Ronald Reagan to the United States District Court for the Western District of Texas in 1988. In 1991, he was nominated to the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals by George H.W. Bush where he served until his retirement in 2015.
